Sonic Chaos for the SEGA Game Gear (known as Sonic & Tails in Japan) is a landmark title in the 8-bit era, being the first portable Sonic game to feature Tails as a fully playable character with his signature flight abilities.

Key Features

  • Two Unique Playable Characters: Choose Sonic for a high-speed challenge with his exclusive "Strike Dash" and "Spin Dash" moves, or play as Tails for a more accessible experience using his ability to fly over obstacles and pits.
  • The Rocket Shoes: Experience a series first with the Rocket Shoes power-up, allowing Sonic to blast through the air and reach hidden areas high above the stage.
  • Classic 8-Bit Speed: Despite the handheld hardware, Sonic Chaos maintains the fast-paced gameplay the series is known for, featuring six diverse zones including GigapolisSleeping Egg, and Aqua Planet.
  • Chaos Emerald Hunt: Unlike previous 8-bit entries where Emeralds were hidden in levels, Sonic must collect 100 rings to enter 3D-style Special Stages to earn them. (Note: Tails cannot collect Emeralds, making his mode an "Easy" difficulty setting).
  • Optimized for Game Gear: Designed specifically for the Game Gear’s color screen, the game features bright, vibrant sprites and a zoomed-in perspective that makes the handheld action easy to follow.

Game Zones

  • Turquoise Hill: The classic tropical starting point.
  • Gigapolis: A futuristic, neon-lit city zone.
  • Sleeping Egg: A quirky, block-filled laboratory.
  • Mecha Green Hill: A roboticized twist on the iconic landscape.
  • Aqua Planet: A beautiful but dangerous water-themed ruins.
  • Electric Egg: The final showdown in Dr. Eggman's high-voltage fortress.
